While people continue to complain that Trump is against Immigrants, around 15,000 of them became naturalized citizens during several Fourth of July naturalization ceremonies. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) stated there were 65 events across the country legalizing immigrants.
According to The Hill’s report, the number of immigrants who became naturalized was more than doubled from last year’s fourth of July celebrations. In 2016, the USCIS reported that there were only 7,000 people naturalized.
During a ceremony in Vermont this year, former President Calvin Coolidge ‘s granddaughter sang the national anthem before 20 brand new citizens of the United States. New Jersey held their ceremony aboard the USS New Jersey.
While the President has made it clear that he doesn’t like illegal immigration, the doubled numbers would indicate he’s not stopping legal immigration and in fact encourages it. Legal immigration can be extremely helpful, but what are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below!
