A Nightmare For McDonald’s After Tweet About the President

President Trump is famous for Tweeting out controversial statements on Twitter, but the most recent newsworthy Tweet comes from the massive fast food company, McDonalds.

A post on McDonald’s corporate Twitter account was quickly taken down after it caused a stir Thursday morning. The post suggested Trump was ‘disgusting’ and that Obama should return to office. After roughly 20 minutes, the post was taken down, but not before it was retweeted more than a thousand times.

McDonald’s Tweet is below:

“You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back, also you have tiny hands.”

The Tweet went without any follow-up by the company for over an hour. When they finally did comment, they said their account “was compromised”:

“Twitter notified us that our account was compromised. We deleted the tweet, secured out account and are now investigating this.”

While it’s doubtful that McDonald as a company was behind the tweet, it’s possible that an employee or external hacker released the statement. The company’s twitter account normally posts about holidays, McDonald’s outlets and investor/company information so the audience for this ‘joke’ was not expectant.

The tweet received all sorts of responses from agreement to anger. One comment joked that someone decided to ‘quit their job’:

“I assume somebody decided to quit their social media job in style.”

Others joked that the fictional ‘Hamburglar’ hacked the system and made the statement.

Knowing President Trump’s history with McDonalds, it didn’t make sense the company would make this type of statement. Around a year ago, Trump expressed his appreciation for fast-food chains and mentioned how restaurants kept tight standards.

After obtaining the Presidential nomination, Trump had a picture taken of him with a McDonald’s hamburger that was clearly meant to be for marketing. The photo has since gained reputation or its various memes.

Do you think McDonald’s was behind this at all? Or do you think this is just an upset employee?
