Ann Coulter is known for her direct, hard-hitting conservative views. In a blog post this week, Coulter called out politicians who have failed to fulfill their campaign promises and her hopes for Trump’s adherence to his.
“Now comes the part Americans have desperately hoped for, but almost never seen,” said Coulter. “A politician keeping his promises to the American people. (See, e.g., Senate candidate Marco Rubio’s 2010 promise to oppose amnesty if elected; Sen. Mitch McConnell’s 2014 to promise to bloc Obama’s executive amnesty if Republicans were handed a Senate majority; Jeb Bush, John Kasich and Ted Cruz’s promise to support the 2016 Republican presidential nominee.)” And of course, there was George H.W. Bush’s infamous “Read My Lips” quote.
Despite the many examples of politicians making promises during the campaign season only to back off those promises once elected, Coulter appears to hold out hope that Trump, like his entire political career to date, will be different.
“With the self-assurance of everything else they’ve said wrong about Trump from Day One,” said Coulter, “the media are already announcing that he, too, will betray the American people. I don’t think so!”
In a quick-witted style, Coulter proceeded to provide a schedule for President-elect Trump to help him attain the elusive status as a promise keeper.
“Day 1: Start building the wall.” Days two through 100: “Continue building the wall.”
So, will Trump be like other politicians who forget their promises when it is convenient or uncomfortable for them? Or will he continue to take a different political route and fulfill his promises? That remains to be seen.
