The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives is working to adjust some of the rules that govern their congressional body, according to a report by Fox News.
“The draft shows that the House Committee on Natural Resources would ask witnesses to recite only, ‘Do you solemnly swear or affirm, under penalty of law, that the testimony that you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?’”
The words, “So help you God” showing up in red brackets indicates that they are on the chopping block and slated to be cut from the oath.
Additionally, the draft appears to amend every reference to “chairman” to say “chair,” and each instance of “his or her” are changed to “their” throughout the document.
“Other rules changes relate to expanding the committee’s authority over natural gas in Alaska and fossil-fuel resources,” Fox News reported.
Republican leaders were distressed at this new proposal and suggested that it’s a warning sign of the Democratic party’s harsh left swing.
“It is incredible, but not surprising, that the Democrats would try to remove God from committee proceedings in one of their first acts in the majority,” House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., told Fox News. “They really have become the party of Karl Marx.”
The House’s move to strike the reference to God comes as Democrats have accepted another religious tradition, the headdress of Muslim freshman congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
The rules were changed specifically for the congresswoman since headwear had been banned from Congress for decades.
Omar made history as one of the first Muslim lawmakers but has been harshly treated by those on the right, who consider her beliefs to be a threat.
Omar wrote in 2012, according to Fox News, that “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”
