It started on 1/25 President Trump signed the executive order regarding immigration and the deportations of illegal immigrates. On Wednesday when Garcia de Rayos went to check in with ICE she was taken into custody. Garcia de Rayos was here illegally but had to been deported as a result of the Obama policies.
Not long thereafter protesters surrounded the Customs Enforcement office and an ICE vehicle that was assumed to be transporting Rayos. Here is the video:
Around 9 pm Police arrived on scene and the protesters from the Puente Arizona group began to leave. Despite this, some protesters continued to block the vehicles and seven people were arrested. Protesters claimed they would remain as long as the family remained.
Ray Ybarra-Maldonado whom is the lawyer representing Garcia de Rayos said that:
“It has 100 percent to do with the executive order, Her case is no different than the last time she checked in. The facts are 100 percent the same. The only difference is the priorities for removal have now changed.”
A statement from ICE stated that in 2013 an immigration judge found Rayas had “no legal stance to remain in the US and issued a voluntary departure instructing her to leave the country.” ICE official as stated that Rayos has a 2009 felony conviction for criminal impersonation. Rayos was deported to Mexico that night and did a press conference from Mexico yesterday.
But it didn’t end there. On Thursday ICE officials began “raids” throughout the Los Angeles area sweeping up at least a hundred of alleged illegal immigrants. Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles stated:
“We know the daily patterns of people being picked up and taken, “There’s a natural flow of enforcement that happens every day. But this was not normal.”
It was reported by attorneys that went to the ICE office in L.A that at least 100 people were taken into custody. ICE officials claim that “raids” were considered areas of interest and routine. ICE officials stated:
“Our operations are targeted and lead driven, prioritizing individuals who pose a risk to our communities. Examples would include known street gang members, child sex offenders, and deportable foreign nationals with significant drug trafficking convictions,” the statement said. “To that end, ICE’s routine immigration enforcement actions are ongoing and we make arrests every day.”
So yesterday while the media and Democrats took a victory lap they were completely oblivious to what was really happening. It didn’t take a genius to know that the 9th Circuit was going to uphold the ban, so while the press was busy covering the court, ICE went to work. If you’re a Trump Supporter this is great news the President continues to follow through on his promises. If you’re a Democrat you better hope that the party learns to keep an eye on the opposite arm of the Trump Administration.
