Former Vice President Joe Biden just corrected his remarks about fighting President Trump,
“I was talking about high school,” Biden told NBC reporter Mariana Atencio on Friday.
Atencio actually asked Biden whether he would “really fight the president.” This followed a heated exchange between Trump and Biden that began when the former vice president criticized Trump’s past remarks about women at a Florida rally on Wednesday.
Well, if he is the 2020 contender that CNN claims to be if he backs off the President that fast it should be a walk in the park for President Trump. Seriously, though think about it, that would have been a great opportunity to say, “No but we are going to fight Trump every day win back the House and take the Presidency.” But, that’s not what we got we got “well I was just kidding.” With tactics like that Democrats are going to come up short in 2018 and 2020.
During his speech in Miami Biden said that he would have taken the president “behind the gym and beat the hell out of him” in high school.
That prompted Trump to tweet early Thursday writing that Biden was weak “both mentally and physically” while declaring his potential 2020 opponent “would go down fast and hard” if such a confrontation occurred.
Biden didn’t respond directly to Trump’s taunting, but insisted that he was only talking about a hypothetical situation in high school, not the present day.
“Go back and read what I said. I said ‘high school,'” Biden stopped to tell Atencio, who caught him live on MSNBC while walking down a hall in the Capitol.
Vice President Pence also couldn’t resist jumping in on the trash talking:
“You know who I’d be betting on,” Pence said, laughing.
It’s just a little bit of trash talk going on, just got to make you chuckle in American politics today,” he added.
Pence also said that he didn’t think it was “proper” for Biden to make his comments about physically fighting Trump.
“This president is a guy that knows how to fight, fight for our agenda, knows how to fight for all of what we’re doing to make America great again,” Pence said. “And he’s going to keep on fighting, I promise you.”
When the remarks were made by Biden, he was referencing comments made by Trump on the infamous 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape that included lewd comments about grabbing women without their consent.
“A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, ‘I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it.’ They asked me would I like to debate this gentleman, and I said no. I said, ‘If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him,’” Biden said to cheers.
Trump responded on Twitter the following morning.
“Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy. Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me, for the second time, with physical assault,” Trump wrote. “He doesn’t know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don’t threaten people Joe!”
Trump has the edge in age at 71, Biden is 76.
What do you think about Biden’s “correction?” What do you think about Trump’s response?
