On Thursday during an interview with conservative radio host, Hugh Hewitt Attorney General Jeff Sessions was asked if an “outside counsel was needed to probe Obama era controversies.” Sessions reported that he would be willing to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Obama Department of Justice.
“I’m going to do everything I possibly can to restore the independence and professionalism of the Department of Justice. So we would have to consider whether or not some outside special counsel is needed.”
Session stated that they will be examining several issues that have concerned conservatives to include the IRS (Lois Lerner), the Hillary Clinton email scandal, and the Obama DOJ investigations into local police departments.
During the interview Sessions specifically mentioned the IRS scandal:
Of particular concern, Sessions said, was the Justice Department’s handling of an investigation into whether the IRS improperly targeted conservative groups for investigation. The Justice Department closed the probe without filing any charges against the agency, citing a lack of evidence of intended wrongdoing.
“That circumstance raised a lot of questions in my mind, and when I was in the Senate,” Sessions said. “So it is a matter of real concern to me.”
It seems like Sessions has a response of his own for those saying he colluded with Russia, he is launching an investigation of his own. Attorney General Sessions is going launch a full-throttled investigation into Obama’s DOJ. This move could cause elected Democrats to back off depending upon what Sessions digs up. You can bet that if any evidence comes out of corruption it could be damaging to the Democrats. But, I think Sessions is specifically going after one person; Comey. I think the President wants to have an influence on the FBI director and right now he doesn’t. With an in-depth investigation into the Justice Department, they may have the opportunity to force Comey to resign.
