One House Representative from California is not just relying on her own “diagnosis” of President Trump’s mental state; she has reached out to professional psychologists to discuss the president.
Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) said to BuzzFeed News, “It’s one thing from my non-professional, non-clinical standpoint [to] believe that someone does not have the capacity to do the job. It’s another thing to talk to experts and [those] who can deal with mental psychosis on a daily basis, so I wanted to hear from them.”
Speier has spoken with two professionals including John Gartner, who is a psychologist who founded Duty to Warn. This group is made up of mental health experts who believe that Trump is “deeply and dangerously psychologically disordered.”
Speier has previously questioned Trump’s mental health on Twitter, “POTUS is showing signs of erratic behavior and mental instability that place the country in grave danger. Time to invoke the 25th amendment,” she said in an August tweet.
BuzzFeed has also heard from a psychiatry professor at Yale who told them that she has been contacted by lawmakers to discuss Trump’s mental state.
Democrats started asking questions about the mental capacity of the president as early as February, shortly after Trump took office.
Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) said that “a few” Republican colleagues had expressed concern to him about Trump’s mental health.
