CNN and MSNBC were not given dunce caps, but they were given the last two rows in the foreign press section for Tuesday’s joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
This seating plan caused CNN political analyst and Sentinel editor Brian Karen to tweet on Tuesday complaining about the perceived slight.
“I am not saying that they are punishing MSNBC and CNN,” he wrote. “What I am saying is that they are in the last two rows of the foreign press section.”
The president intensified the situation on Tuesday morning by slamming CNN and NBC News while making rounds on a conservative media circuit. His comments may suggest that their seat placement wasn’t an accident.
“Dishonesty in the media is one of the things that surprised me the most… I thought that after I won, the media would become much more stable and much more honest,” Trump said.
“CNN is a joke, NBC is a total joke,” he added. “You watch what they report, there’s no relationship to what I’m doing.”
