In an interview on Tuesday with CNN’s Jim Sciutto, Jackie Speier (Democrat-California) came down on President Trump, suggesting that it is time for Vice President Pence and the Cabinet to determine whether it is fit to invoke the 25th Amendment.
The 25th Amendment says that the Vice President and a majority of Cabinet leaders can collaborate to determine whether the president is unable to discharge his duties.
Speier said that President Trump’s “abusive comments” made in reference to the Charlottesville violence are a clear sign that he is unable to fulfill his duties as President.
She went on to state, “There is a growing mountain of evidence that the president has been very erratic. Has shown mental instability. It was crystallized last week with the combination of his comments about ‘fire and fury’ that he offered up against Kim Jong Un in North Korea and how we would ‘take him out.’ ”
She concluded the interview, saying, “Followed by his back-and-forth on Charlottesville, and how he really became almost abusive, in calling people out, when he was telling from his soul what he thought about the Charlottesville incident.”
Speier even took to twitter, saying…
This is certainly not the first time that Speier has suggested the 25th Amendment. Just last week, she said via Twitter that Trump is “unhinged” and that it is time to consider invoking the rule.
