It’s pretty clear, Conservative Review Editor-in-Chief Mark Levin was right, the Obama administration did wiretap former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort through secret court orders both before and after the 2016 election, according to CNN reports.
The Obama administration obtained a FISA court warrant to surveil members of the Trump campaign to an unknown extent. Their surveillance of Manafort began sometime after an initial investigation was started focusing on his work done in the Ukraine. Although the case was closed due to lack of evidence, the Obama administration reopened it and obtained a new FISA court order. The surveillance that they started lasted into early 2017. Sources for CNN claim that the second FISA warrant was a part of the FBI’s probe into “ties between Trump campaign associates and suspected Russian operatives.”
In March of 2017, Mark Levin was reporting on the intelligence leads that prompted Michael Flynn to resign from his position as National Security Adviser and Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Levin reported that these leaks were a part of a “silent coup” against President Trump. But Levin went further:
“There’s a much bigger scandal here: We have a prior administration – Barack Obama and his surrogates – who are supporting Hillary Clinton and her party, the Democratic Party. Who were using the … intelligence activities to surveil members of the Trump campaign, and to put that information out in the public. Those are police state tactics. Nothing Flynn or Sessions has done is even in the same category as that,” Levin said.
Levin reported that the Obama administration made their first attempt to get a FISA court order so they could monitor Trump and his advisers in June of 2016, but it was denied. They tried again in October and gained success. They began targeting top Trump associates.
“The question is,” Levin said last March, “Was Obama surveilling top Trump campaign officials during the election?”
It was in April that the Washington Post confirmed that Levin’s claims were valid. Then it was also revealed that Susan Rice, Obama’s National Security Adviser, was personally responsible for unmasking the identities of various Trump campaign officials.
In June, the House Intelligence Committee issued subpoenas concerning three former Obama staff members in the unmasking case: former U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power, former national security adviser Rice, and former CIA director John Brennan.
Here is the bottom line: There were reports of surveillance on the Trump team, allegations of the unmasking of Trump officials, and repeated, damaging leaks to the media designed to hurt the Trump administration.
Conservative host Mark Levin was brutalized by the mainstream press when he began reporting on these questions. CNN’s Brian Stelter said that Levin was spreading “conspiracy theories.” Now CNN itself is reporting what Levin previously revealed.
Levin recently tweeted, “@marklevinshow Will CNN & the rest of the phony media admit they were wrong & I was right?”
Levin summed it up this way, “The great scandal upsetting our constitutional order doesn’t involve Team Trump and Russia. It involves the Obama administration, their unbounded surveillance, and the complicity of the mainstream media in playing defense for Democrats.”
What do you think about Levin and his reporting? Should the mainstream media apologize?
