One of former President Obama’s masterminds Rahm Emanuel issued a warning to Democrats. Rahm is concerned about the recent activity of the “left” and is attempting to hold back the fury of progressives.
“It ain’t gonna happen in 2018,” Emanuel said Monday at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business in California. “Take a chill pill, man. You gotta be in this for the long haul.”
The Chicago Tribune put the situation the Democrats face perfectly:
The Democratic establishment lost on national and local levels. But the left is having success organizing the party’s base, keeping them on message, even engaging in loud and angry theater. All of this is not just about organizing against Trump.
More importantly, it’s being used to drive the old Democratic establishment off the stage.
And that establishment, wounded and frightened at loss of control, doesn’t like it.
Democratic Party insiders — those who stacked the deck against Sen. Bernie Sanders to protect Hillary Clinton — are trying to do one thing:
Hold onto power.
Rahm continued to say that Democrats may need to put their principles aside and “be pragmatic”. During a speech to the Standford Group Emanual said:
“Winning’s everything. If you don’t win, you can’t make the public policy. I say that because it is hard for people in our party to accept that principle. Sometimes, you’ve just got to win, OK? Our party likes to be right, even if they lose.”
Emanuel said that he feels that the Democrat party could wonder for years if they continue to push further left. Rahm stated that he wants a middle of the road candidates like athletes, veterans instead of political hardliners.
It would appear that Establishment Democrats are receiving the wrath for how they treated Bernie Sanders and how they treated their moderate constitutes. The establishment tried to manipulate both sides to keep their piece of the pie. Well, as a result, the Democrats lost everything and according to Rahm Emanuel may be in the minority for years.
