How far across the aisle is President Trump willing to go? Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a recent press conference that Trump has done more bipartisan work in the last eight days than former President Obama accomplished in 8 years.
President Trump hosted leading Democrats, including Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, at the White House Wednesday night. The Democrats quickly declared that they reached an agreement on protecting younger immigrants from deportation, specifically the 800,000 young adults affected by the recent announcement on the DACA program ending in six months.
The announcement indicated that a new law would be established that would protect them and provide more border security. But they also said that a wall would not be included in the deal.
The president shot back early Thursday morning with tweets declaring that no deal was made. Trump wrote that “massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent” of the immigration protection. The deal would also be subject to a vote. He also seemed to change his tune dramatically on those affected by DACA: “Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!…..”
Take a look at the series of tweets from the president:
So is it “deal or no deal?” What are you thoughts about the bipartisan work being done by the president? Will this move destroy his base? Can both parties be trusted?
