While it seems nearly impossible to unite Republicans and Democrats in Congress, President Trump managed to bring many of them together to honor the widow of late Navy SEAL, William “Ryan” Owens.
If one portion of the President’s speech rang throughout America, it would have been this one. The standing ovation, which lasted over four minutes, was all for the Fallen SEAL’s wife, Carryn Owens. The President continued his comfort quoting the bible:
“For as the Bible teaches us, there is no greater act of love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. Ryan laid down his life for his friends, for his country, and for our freedom. And we will never forget Ryan.”

The public speech caught the attention of viewers all over the nation, but what most people don’t know, is that the President had a private meeting with the Owens family before his address. It was reported by the Miami Herald that the Navy SEALS father refused to meet with President Trump. The meeting was kept completely secret. No media and no press release. The only thing revealed was by White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Wednesday.

Spicer reported that the White House asked Mrs. Owens if President Trump could mention her during his speech while in the secretive meeting. Spicer then reported Mrs. Owens saying, “I’d like that.”
Spicer also said that referencing her in the speech was also her decision.
Trump seemed to respect the widow as best he could and even gave her a hug after his address to the joint session of Congress. In comparison, a Clinton connection mocked the widow during the address. No President will do everything right, but Trump supporters are thrilled with how he is honoring military heroes and their fallen brothers.
