Donald Trump Jr. just sat down with ABC News and defended his father’s response to the London Mayor. The president’s son said, “Every time he puts something out there, he gets criticized by the media, all day every day. And then guess what? Two weeks later, he’s proven to be right. It happened again, and we keep appeasing it, and we keep saying OK it’s going to be great, we’re going to hold fast, and we’re going to keep calm and carry on,” he continued in a segment aired on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Trump Jr. suggested that we take a different approach in the aftermath of such an attack. “Maybe we have to keep calm and actually do something,” he said. “And I think that’s what he’s (President Trump) trying to say, because he’s been proven right about it every time. This is a recurring theme … But maybe, rather than the mayor of London attacking, maybe he should do something about it.”
Donald Trump Jr. said that he thinks London Mayor Sadiq Khan should do something to fix the problem rather than “just sit there and pretend there isn’t one.” Trump Jr. was then asked if he thought the mayor was at fault for what happened in London, he said that isn’t what he said. “I think it’s time for the people there to probably act and do something a lot more proactive than what’s going on and I do think that’s something people have to do,” Trump Jr. said. “We can’t just sit there and pretend this is not a problem.”
The president’s son’s comments come in response to his father’s criticism of Mayor Khan on Twitter: “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!'” President Trump tweeted on Sunday.
When the mayor responded by saying that he had better things to do than to respond to Trump’s comments, the president fired back tweeting: “Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his ‘no reason to be alarmed’ statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!”
This interaction has prompted Mayor Kahn to call on the British government to cancel the upcoming state visit Trump has planned in the UK.
