El Salvador Is ‘Dreading’ the Repercussions Of This Trump Policy and Is Trying to Prepare

El Salvadoran authorities have no idea what to do! The Trump administration is sending so many violent gang members out of America and back to their home country that El Salvador is now holding emergency meetings and attempting to come up with new laws to keep track of all the criminals being deported from the United States. They are apparently “dreading” what will come of gang members returning in droves according to Washington Post reports.

Already this year, the U.S. government has deported almost 400 gang members back to El Salvador. That compares with 534 in all of 2016 according to Salvadoran statistics. The increase, as well as the prospect that a whole lot more will be coming, has prompted the Salvadoran authorities to propose new legislation so that these criminals can be monitored when they arrive home.

Hector Antonio Rodriquez, the director of the country’s immigration agency, said, “This clearly affects El Salvador. We already have a climate of violence in the country that we are combating. If gang members return, of course this worries us.”

President Trump has focused on members of the violent gang known as MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha. Trump promised earlier this month that MS-13 would be “gone from our streets very soon, believe me.” Law enforcement officials in Los Angeles and other U.S. cities have launched raids and captured dozens of MS-13 gang members. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced earlier this month that they have arrested more than 1,300 gang members across the country. It is the largest anti-gang crackdown in agency history.

The mayor of San Salvador, Nayib Bukele, said in an interview, “Probably we won’t feel the symptoms today or tomorrow or the next week. But probably in six months or a year we’ll be feeling the symptoms of what these deportations are causing now.”

This is just the opposite of what happened under former president, Barack Obama. The Washington Examiner wrote this in 2015, “The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency released nearly 600 illegal immigrants convicted of sex crimes, many because their home countries refused to take them back, according to newly obtained documents.”

What do you think about how the president is dealing with illegal gang members in our country?
