Fasten Your Seat Belts But Keep Your Electronics: Turkish Ban Lifted

The Trump administration has lifted a ban previously put on electronics that are larger than smartphones in the cabin for those traveling from Dubai and Istanbul to the United States, according to CNN.
“Emirates has been working hard in coordination with various aviation stakeholders and the local authorities to implement heightened security measures and protocols that meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s new security guidelines for all U.S. bound flights,” the Dubai-based airline said in a statement.
Turkish Airlines tweeted, “#WelcomeOnBoard to our U.S.-bound flight. Please fasten your seatbelts and enjoy your own electronic devices.”
This is another step forward after the White House administration lifted its ban on laptops in cabins on flights from Abu Dhabi to the U.S. earlier this month. Prior to these moves, the U.S. had banned laptops on flights coming from 10 different airports in Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Turkey in March.
Although the U.S. does not have jurisdiction over foreign airports, they do have authority over airlines that have direct U.S.bound flights. According to the Department of Homeland Security announcement last week, the U.S. will be unveiling new aviation security measures for all international flights entering America. This will take the place of the laptop ban.
