Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.) said on Friday that he’s “had it” with the president. He said Trump’s presidency has become a “very serious security threat” for the country.
“This presidency is a very serious security threat for the United States,” Garamendi said on CNN’s “The Situation Room.”
“I ought to say, it’s time to get this guy out of there.”
Even Wolf Blitzer, the CNN anchor, commented that Garamendi was using “strong words” to describe Trump.
“I’ve had it with this president,” the California Democrat blurted out.
Building his case, Garamendi noted an assertion from federal regulators that Russia had successfully breached some corporate systems at power plants on the U.S. power grid in 2017. Officials have cautioned that no security or safety systems were compromised.
Garamendi also pointed to a claim from the lawyer of porn star Stormy Daniels that his client had been physically threatened over her allegation of an affair with the president.
When asked if he would support articles of impeachment, Garamendi said he would “if [Trump] hasn’t done what he can do to protect the very essential elements of this nation.”
There were 58 Democrats who voted to begin impeachment proceedings against Trump, but that move has not gained support among Democratic leaders.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said in December that “now is not the time” to consider an impeachment effort.
“Right now, Congressional committees continue to be deeply engaged in investigations into the President’s actions both before and after his inauguration. The special counsel’s investigation is moving forward as well, and those inquiries should be allowed to continue.”
“Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment,” they wrote.
Will Garamendi’s intensity create a new wave of momentum in D.C. against Trump?
