Ivanka Trump’s Fashion Line Stuns Retail Forecasters

If you’ve been following the news, you will know that many news outlets have suggested that people are avoiding Ivanka Trump’s clothing line in protest of her father. Some retail forecasters even predicted that her fashion line would never do well again. However, the president of Ivanka’s company stated that recent sales are the best in the company’s history.

Abigail Klem is a former lawyer who has taken the role of president for Ivanka’s company. She has been with Ivanka Trump HQ since 2013 and took office as president of the company in January. Klem issued a statement about the company’s performance to Refinery29.com:

“Since the beginning of February, they were some of the best performing weeks in the history of the brand. For several different retailers Ivanka Trump was a top performer online, and in some of the categories it was the [brand’s] best performance ever.”

The company isn’t the only one with factual numbers either. A company called Lyst monitors purchasing data from thousands of stores and collected information on Ivanka’s company. They found that between January and February alone, the sales soared to 346 percent. Below is a statement by Lyst’s public relations director Sarah Tanner:

“We often noticed sales and search data are related to current events. During the presidential campaign last year, we saw a 460 percent increase in searches for pantsuits, which we likely tied to Hillary Clinton’s affinity for the style. In the same vein, the Trump brand has largely been in the news many times during February, and it wouldn’t be surprising to say that resulted in increased sales, in many calls for supporting the brand that we’ve seen online and throughout the last couple of months.”

The reason for the growth of the business could simply exist from media coverage or could be because the business is genuinely growing. “Whether this is a long-term trend, we can’t say,” Tanner says about the business growth. “We’ve tracked the sales from March thus far and, if sales continue, we’ll see an 8 percent increase, in relation to January sales, but nothing as large as what we saw in February. [But] it’s still stronger than it had been in January.”

Ivanka stated on January 11th that she was stepping down from managing her company:

“When my father takes office as the 45th President of the United States of America, I will take formal leave of absence from The Trump Organization and my eponymous apparel and accessories brand. I will no longer be involved with the management of operations of either company.”
