Yesterday during the Coast Guard Academy’s graduation ceremony Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly got caught on a hot microphone making a joke to the President.
After the President had posed with a saber during the ceremony, the President sat down next to Kelly who said. “You can use that on the press.” The President then responded with a chuckle and said, “Yeah.”
The press has been up in arms over this joke saying that the President has already asked the former FBI Director James Comey to arrest journalists and this is a continued assault on free speech. The Washington Post reports:
Such comments “cross a dangerous line,” Bruce Brown, the executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, said in a statement. “But no president gets to jail journalists. Reporters are protected by judges and juries, by a Congress that relies on them to stay informed, and by a Justice Department that for decades has honored the role of a free press by spurning prosecutions of journalists for publishing leaks of classified information.”
Here’s the video you decide? Harmless joke or totally inappropriate?
