The Keystone XL oil pipeline has already caused quite the stir(less than the Dakota Access), but after people realized the pipeline won’t be using American steel like Trump stated, it could get much worse.
The issue was addressed by White House Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday:
“The way that executive order is written, it’s specific to new pipelines or those that are being repaired. And since this one is already currently under construction, the steel is already literally sitting there, it would be hard to go back. But I know that everything moving forward would fall under that executive order.”
So according to the directive, the existing piping in America will be used rather than sent back overseas. The cost of sending back existing pipeline would be high and pointless. However, Trump did make a statement saying the pipelines must use American steel “or we’re not building one.”
Shortly after his inauguration, President Trump used his executive powers to approve both pipes lines that former President Obama blocked. The Keystone pipeline is set to run from Canada to refineries in the Gulf Coast and the Dakota Access pipeline will be from North Dakota to Illinois.
One thing unique about President Trump is that he’s so far kept his promises. With this reputation, I doubt this incident will last much longer.
