What does the next crop of senators look like? How about Musician Kid Rock? Robert Ritchie (Kid Rock) hinted on Wednesday at a possible Senate run in 2018. He confirmed that a campaign website with his name is real and then teased that there would be a “major announcement in the near future.”
Kid Rock has been tossed around in the past as a possible Republican challenger to unseat Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.). On Wednesday he said that he’s gotten a lot of questions about a campaign website entitle “Kid Rock for Senate” and he confirmed that it was real. “I have had a ton of emails and texts asking me if this website is real… http://kidrockforsenate.com The answer is an absolute YES,” Ritchie tweeted on Wednesday. He followed that tweet up with a second that said, “Stay tuned, I will have a major announcement in the near future – Kid Rock.”
Ritchie’s representatives would not comment on a Senate run and referred to the musician’s Facebook page where there is a post about the campaign site. Kid Rock performed at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland and was the first supporter of GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson. He finally announced in early 2016 that he backed Candidate Trump. After Trump’s victory, Kid Rock began selling a line of Trump-inspired clothes. He visited the White House in April along with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and musician Ted Nugent.
At this point, Stabenow only has one Republican contender, Lena Epstein. She is the former co-chair of Trump’s Michigan campaign. Rep. Fred Upton (R- Mich.) is also considering a Senate run.
This may be prime time for Republicans. A GOP presidential nominee has not carried Michigan since 1988. Trump pulled off a major upset victory and won by 10,000 votes. But whoever has to face Stabenow will have an uphill battle. She has served in the upper chamber since 2000 and has easily won reelection twice by double-digit margins.
We can’t want to see what your comments are about a future Senator Kid Rock.
