The insanity between Trump and Corker continued with a charged audio released in which the senator brutally mocks the president. Before you listen to the clip below, here is some history.
Trump tweeted out of nowhere a long attack against Senator Bob Corker early Sunday morning. The president claimed that Corker, who had just declared that he would not run again in 2018, had begged him for an endorsement before deciding not to run. But Trump refused.
Corker responded by posting his tweet which mocked Trump, and then he sat down with the New York Times to speak about their bitter feud. In the 25-minute interview, Corker said a number of things that were negative about his relationship with Trump. The most significant thing he said was concerning the president’s frequent attacks on Twitter on other world leaders. Corker said that Trump “may be setting the US on the path to World War III.”
Corker also spoke about the sense of chaos in the Trump White House; he noted that “every single day at the White House, it’s a situation of trying to contain him.”
Corker flat out said, “He concerns me. He would have to concern anyone who cares about out nation.” He cautioned that we might only avoid WWIII if men like Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary James Mattis, and chief of staff John Kelly are around:
“As long as there are people like that around him who are able to talk him down when he gets spun up, you know, calm him down and continue to work with him before a decision gets made, I think we’ll be fine.”
The senator said that he believes the president has already hindered foreign negotiations with his erratic behavior. “I know he has hurt, in several instances, he’s hurt us as it relates to negotiations that were underway by tweeting things out.”
And Corker made sure that people didn’t try to infuse some master plan in Trump’s actions. “A lot of people think that there is some kind of ‘good cop, bad cop’ act underway, but that’s just not true.”
As you listen to portions of this interview in the audio below, let us know what you think about Corker’s candid critic of Trump.
