Former Presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, verbally attacked the President after Trump claimed he is being treated worse than any other politician. The statement made by Trump was directed at how the press is treating him, and McCain sounded off.
“I’ve been worse treated than President Trump has,” said the Senator who spent over five years as a POW. “So let’s be sure that we know about that.”
During the Vietnam War, McCain’s plane was shot down, and he spent roughly five and a half years being both physically and psychologically tortured. McCain has a clear right to say he was treated worse than any other politician. Read McCain’s full POW story HERE.
During his speech to graduates of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Trump stated that no politician has ever taken worse treatment than he has:
“Look at the way I’ve been treated lately, especially by the media. No politician in history – and I say this with great surety – has been treated worse or more unfairly.”
In full context of Trump’s statement, it makes McCain’s statement seem kind of prideful. While we are grateful for his service and sacrifice, it’s clear that Trump wasn’t referring to physical pain or treatment in life, but rather the treatment of the political spectrum. And this treatment is devastating to a President who is trying to accomplish something.
Trump has most recently taken frustration with the Justice Department bringing in a special counsel to oversee the Russia-Trump investigation. Many say he makes an excellent point in a tweet saying, “With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special counsel appointed!”
Do you think Trump is indeed being treated worse than previous politicians and presidents? If so, let us know in the comments below!
