A House majority leader is currently being scrutinized after he made a statement just a month before Donald Trump received the Republican nomination. The statement came from one of Trump’s closest allies, Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy claimed, during a private Capitol Hill conversation, that Trump was probably a beneficiary of payments from Russian President Putin:
“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump.”
The conversation was found on a recording that took place on June 15th, 2016. During the secret meeting, House Speaker Paul Ryan immediately stopped the conversation when the statement about Trump was made and made the Republicans swear to secrecy.
Washington Post reports that “before the conversation, McCarthy and Ryan had emerged from separate talks at the Capitol with Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman, who had described a Kremlin tactic of financing populist politicians to undercut Eastern European democratic institutions.”
Ryan made his Republican’s swear saying, “No leaks… This is how we know we’re a real family here.” That oath lasted for nearly a year before the conversation was somehow leaked. The leaked info just adds to the pressure on the Republican leaders who are currently trying to deal with the several accusations over Trump.
In fairness, the Washington Post will not release the audio and Republicans have claimed that it was a joke and people were laughing. The second question is how did they get the tape if this was just a meeting between Republican leadership? Naturally, someone in the room gave it to the post, and one could assume it’s not just the Democrats that want to take down President Trump.
President Trump has had several of his team members reveal connections to Russia and they continue to do so. What do you think about Trump’s connections with Russia? Do you think he’s being paid by Putin? Do you even think he needs the money?
