Mike Pence cuts Ilhan Omar down to size

Vice President Mike Pence took aim at Rep. Ilhan Omar for what he characterized as her choosing “socialism over freedom” when she blamed the United States for the crisis in Venezuela.

“As Venezuelans take to the streets to stand for their freedom against an oppressive dictator, Democrat Congresswoman @IlhanMN chooses socialism over freedom,” Pence tweeted on Thursday. “The Trump Administration stands with the freedom-loving people of Venezuela.”

Pence was responding to an interview done by Omar in which she castigated the United States for sanctions and other interactions on the part of those struggling to throw off the tyrannical government in Venezuela.

“A lot of the policies that we have put in place has kind of helped lead the devastation in Venezuela,” Omar said during an interview from Capitol Hill.

“And we’ve sort of set the stage for where we’re arriving today, this particular bullying and use of sanctions to eventually intervene and make regime change really doesn’t to help the people of countries like Venezuela and it certainly doesn’t not help and is not in the interest of the United States.

On Thursday, Omar doubled down on her comments about the conflict in the socialist nation.

“Just as in interventions past, those who oppose war are labeled supporters of dictators and haters of ‘freedom.’ We saw this playbook in Iraq,” the freshman congresswoman tweeted. “The situation in Venezuela is dire and the Trump Admin is making it worse. We must support diplomacy, not war.”

While Omar persistently shares her frustration with the way in which the United States has conducted itself in matters of international democracy, the Somalian refugee also claims to care about the same tannates for herself.

In the pinned tweet on her account, Omar states that “This country was founded on the ideas of justice, of liberty, of the pursuit of happiness. But these core beliefs are under threat.” It’s unclear how the Minnesota representative who fled war intends to help those in Venezuela by not facilitating the end of their war.
