In the first video below, you can watch a report about the directive from President Trump to ban transgender military recruits. Trump administration leaders specify the guidelines to be followed by military officials.

In the second video, you can watch MTV interview several transgender soldiers who arrived on the red carpet of MTV’s Video Music Awards. Earlier in the week, the Department of Defense confirmed that MTV had requested the presence of transgender military members.

Air Force Staff Sergeant Logan B. Ireland said in the MTV interview, “I believe that America was built on diversity and to be able to be here to share that is a really good experience.”

This is not the first time that an MTV awards show has brought political controversy into the limelight. Last year, Beyonce came onto the red carpet with several women whose sons were killed because of police actions. These women became the faces of Mothers of the Movement. And in 2010, Lady Gaga brought soldiers who were either asked to leave the military or discharged because of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

Sarah Kate Ellis, CEO, and president of GLAAD said, “They’re so progressive. MTV has always been a leader dating back two decades with ‘The Real World’ when they had the first person with AIDS on a show. MTV has always been a leader and a responder, MTV represents the youth today.”

After watching the videos, we would like to see your comments on this controversial issue.
