Former vice president Joe Biden plans to jump right back into the workforce…as an Ivy League professor!
Biden has been out of the white house for a mere 20 days and yet he has landed a comfortable job teaching at the University of Pennsylvania. And get this; he will be teaching our young generation about international diplomacy.
Fox News reports that he will be leading the new Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement which stresses, “diplomacy, foreign policy, and national security.” While Biden will spend much of his time at the center in Washington, the school has also set up an office at the school’s location.
University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann recently addressed Biden’s role saying:
“Joe Biden is one of the greatest statesmen of our times. In his distinguished career of service to our nation, he has demonstrated a unique capacity to bring people together across divides and to craft constructive responses to some of the toughest and most important policy challenges of our day.”
Biden not only spent over 30 years on the Senate, but he also spent the last eight years as Former President Obama’s vice president. Biden seems excited about his new role as the Presidential Practice Professor and issued a statement to U Penn saying:
“At Penn, I look forward to building on the work that has been a central pillar of my career in public office: promoting and protecting the post-WWII international order that keeps the United States safe and strong,” said Vice President Biden. “The Penn Biden Center and I will be engaging with Penn’s wonderful students while partnering with its eminent faculty and global centers to convene world leaders, develop and advance smart policy, and impact the national debate about how America can continue to lead in the 21st Century.”
However, despite his zeal for teaching, Biden has also noted his time for academics won’t be longer than 4 years. In December, Biden told several reporters that he planned on running for president a fourth time. “Yeah, I am,” Biden told reporters who asked about another presidential run. “I am going to run in 2020.” At least he’s not a quitter!
