Through a series of tweets and online posting, Sen. Patrick Leahy pushed his message of “you can’t run forever” to Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Sessions was scheduled to testify in front of the House and Senate Appropriations subcommittees this week but has again avoided by stating he would be sending Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in his place.
The Attorney General will instead testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee. This committee is currently investigating the ties between Trump and Russia. Sessions released the following statement regarding the switching:
“In light of reports regarding Mr. Comey’s recent testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, it is important that I have an opportunity to address these matters in the appropriate forum.”
He goes on to say:
“The Senate Intelligence Committee is the most appropriate forum for such matters, as it has been conducting an investigation and has access to relevant, classified information.”
Sessions made the unique choice of recusing himself from the Russia investigation in March when it was found that he didn’t mention two meetings with the Russian ambassador during the Trump campaign. During his hearing, Comey also stated that its possible that Comey had a third meeting that’s still unknown.
