OK, Red Blue Divide Family…it’s been a rather intense week! We’ve had Tomahawk missiles, White House feuds, North Korean tension and the “Mother of all bombs” in the news. It’s about time we took a deep breath and had a little fun. So here you go, we’ve got a picture that looks like Senator Bernie Sanders is popping out of a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream tub. We’ll give you the real story here, but we want you to spend some time thinking about how you might describe this picture. Provide us with a title, illustrate a funny scenario or come up with a great Ben & Jerry’s flavor that spotlights the popular Senator. We can’t wait to see the creativity that comes from our Red-Blue Divide family!

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was photographed on Friday delivering a speech at the Ben and Jerry’s factory in his home state. The subject matter of the speech countered the lighthearted nature of the context; Sanders is popping out of a half-pint with eager listeners still wearing their factory hairnets. Sanders focused his energy on fossil fuels, clean energy, and climate change. The Senator had this to say about the minimum wage: “When you got millions of people in this country who are forced to work two or three jobs, to cobble together health care and the income they need, that a minimum wage nationally of seven dollars and a quarter, that’s a starvation wage.” Sanders told workers he will propose legislation in the next few months to raise the minimum wage nationwide to $15 an hour. These issues flow authentically from his life and work.
Bernie was certainly on friendly turf. Ben and Jerry, the company founders, were vocal and loyal supporters of Sander’s run for president. In fact, they released an unofficial ice cream flavor during the campaign called “Bernie’s Yearning.”
We believe that our constituents at The Red-Blue Divide can do better than that. So get your creative juices flowing. Here’s an example someone on social media posted about the tub popping picture of Bernie: “Worst bachelor party ever!” We’re ready for you to dish it out. . .
