North Korea Embarrassed After Launch Attempt

The world was waiting and watching…what would North Korea do after their celebration called the “Day of the Sun?” Tension had escalated in the region with growing concern that the unhinged leader, Kim Jong-un, would conduct a sixth nuclear test following the celebration of his grandfather and founder of the nation’s birthday. The renegade government seemed “locked and loaded.”

According to South Korea’s military, the North Koreans, in fact, did attempt to launch a missile near Sinpo, on its east coast, but it is believed to have failed. “The North attempted to launch an unidentified missile from near the Sinpo region this morning but it is suspected to have failed,” the South’s Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. This failed launch came after an aggressive military parade in the nation’s capital where they displayed new ballistic missiles. There are little details as of yet, and the Chief of Staff’s office is said to be analyzing as much information as possible

Kim Jong-un oversaw a launch of a ballistic missile from the same region on the east coast earlier this month, just ahead of the summit between leaders in the United States and its ally, China. They came together to discuss North Korea’s defiance regarding their build-up of arms.

The White House reported that President Donald Trump has put Kim Jong-un and his nation “on notice,” and ordered a Navy strike group that is being led by a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to the waters surrounding the Korean peninsula. Apparently, this show of strength threatens the possibility of U.S. military action against Pyongyang. The Trump administration is also assessing even more rigid economic sanctions against North Korea.

Kim Jong-un’s regime has responded in kind with a threat of a nuclear strike against the United States. Vice President, Mike Pence, arrived on Easter Sunday in South Korea to begin a ten-day trip to Asia. This trip by the Vice President is meant to be a sign for China, South Korea, and Japan of the U.S. commitment to the region.

This recent missile launch failure will certainly not lessen the tension. The United States has done an “about face” from their “strategic patience” position. What do you think will happen next?
