Shortly after Attorney General Sessions announced that he is going to investigate the actions of the Obama DOJ he asked for the resignation of 46 prosecutors that were Obama appointees. This is not an unusual move however it is rare for all 46 prosecutors to be removed at once.
Sessions claimed that he wanted a “uniformed transition.” The DOJ spokeswomen stated:
Sessions wanted “to ensure a uniform transition” to the Trump administration, spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said in a statement.
“Until the new U.S. attorneys are confirmed, the dedicated career prosecutors in our U.S. attorney’s offices will continue the great work of the department in investigating, prosecuting and deterring the most violent offenders,” she said.
What shocked many is that even the famed prosecutor Preet Bharara was also included in the request for those to resign. AG Bharara is most notably known for his work in anti-corruption cases and even sought federal charges against Governor Cuomo of NY. To make things even stranger originally President Trump had told Bharara he would like him to remain. No doubt after all the leaks coming out of the “deep state” it was decided Bharara would have to leave as well.
According to Bharara office, the President did attempt to contact him on Thursday however, as a result of strict protocols he did not return the phone call. Bharara did notify the Attorney General that the President did attempt to contact him.
On Friday evening Bharara refused to turn in his resignation and as a result was fired by Sessions.
We know that after AG Sessions recused himself from any probe about Trump and the Russia’s and we know that when he did Trump went ballistic. No doubt this is a way to stack the deck in their favor and to keep control “leaks” coming from inside the government.
