The Democratic Party has a secret donation weapon, and her name is Nancy Pelosi. The Democratic House Minority Leader managed to raise almost $26 million for the Democratic Party so far this year according to The Washington Post.
According to Pelosi’s aides, $24.7 million of the total went to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). The Committee was designed to help the party regain control of the House in 2018. Though her donations are a great success, it’s not the first time she has accomplished such a feat. Roughly two years ago, Pelosi raised the same amount of money is approximately the same time.
The Washington Times reported Pelosi’s spokesman, Jorge Aguilar, responding to a question about her fundraising ability:
“Leader Pelosi has national progressive donor network dating back well over 30 years before her days as chair of the California Democratic Party. She has, however, raised over half a billion dollars since entering leadership in 2002.”
Pelosi has also defended her incredible ability to bring in funds:
“My leadership is recognized by many around the country, and that is why I’m able to attract the (financial) support that I do, which is essential to our elections, sad to say.”
While her efforts are incredible, House Speaker Paul Ryan has raised $33.1 million over roughly six months. The Washington Post did report that comparing the two would be difficult because Pelosi organizes her fundraisers differently than most.
