Congressional House Speaker Nancy Pelosi publicly called out President Donald Trump and his administration for putting her in danger by canceling her transportation overseas and then leaking her alternate travel plans.
Following the speaker’s decisions to withdraw her invitation to the president to present the State of the Union address on the 29th of January, due to the government shutdown, the president withdrew the use of government transportation on a multi-country diplomatic tour.
Trump also cited the government shutdown and stated that he believed Pelosi should stay in Washington until a compromise was found.
In his letter, the president mentioned that if Pelosi cared to fly commercial that would be up to her.
Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said that the speaker and a delegation were “prepared to fly commercially to proceed with this vital trip” after Trump revoked the use of a military plane.
“In the middle of the night, the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service provided an updated threat assessment detailing that the President announcing this sensitive travel had significantly increased the danger to the delegation and to the troops, security, and other officials supporting the trip,” Hammill said in a statement released Friday and reported by The New York Post.
“This morning, we learned that the Administration had leaked the commercial travel plans as well.”
He added that “in light of the grave threats caused by the President’s action,” the trip has been canceled altogether “so as to not further endanger our troops and security personnel, or the other travelers on the flight.”
The White House called the allegations of the leak a “flat out lie,” according to Fox News, and said that the president appears to be standing by his decision.
“Why would Nancy Pelosi leave the Country with other Democrats on a seven-day excursion when 800,000 great people are not getting paid,” Trump tweeted on Friday.
Why would Nancy Pelosi leave the Country with other Democrats on a seven day excursion when 800,000 great people are not getting paid. Also, could somebody please explain to Nancy & her “big donors” in wine country that people working on farms (grapes) will have easy access in!
