President Trump recently had his first interview with ABC News’ David Muir. In his interview, the president expressed his opinion that he is “absolutely” convinced that Waterboarding “will keep our country safe.” However, he also said that he would defer the decision of waterboarding to his cabinet.
“When ISIS is doing things nobody has ever heard of since medieval times; would I feel strongly about water boarding? As far as I’m concerned we have to fight fire with fire,” Trump tells Muir in their sit-down interview on Wednesday.
Trump allegedly spoke to “people at the highest level of intelligence…within the past 24 hours” of the interview. He continued, “and asked them the question, ‘Does torture work?’”
After a brief pause, Trump responded to his own question saying, “The answer was, ‘yes.’”
Trump seems to be wise with the decision as he said he would place the decision on his Secretary of Defense James Mattis, CIA director Mike Pompeo, and what he called “my group.” He clearly agrees with the method of getting information as he ended the topic saying:
“IF they don’t want to do that’s fine and if they do what to do I will work within that end… But, do I feel it works? Absolutely.”
