Things have not been going very well for Susan Rice, Obama’s former National Security Advisor. She is known for misguiding the public regarding the Benghazi attack. Recently, she has had a very public flip-flop on what she knew about unmasking names within the Trump organization. In one interview, she said categorically that she knew nothing about names being unmasked in intelligence reports through surveillance of Donald Trump’s transitional team. And then just a few weeks later, she was describing the legality of the unmasking that she was a part of before the Obama administration left office.
And just this week, we see Rice being inconsistent in her words regarding chemical weapons in Syria. In a January interview with NPR, Susan Rice was still touting the Obama administration’s success in removing all the chemical weapons in Syria:
“We were able to find a solution that didn’t necessitate the use of force that actually removed the chemical weapons that were known from Syria, in a way that the use of force would never have accomplished. Our aim in contemplating the use of force following the use of chemical weapons in August of 2013 was not to intervene in the civil war, not to become involved in the combat between Assad and the opposition, but to deal with the threat of chemical weapons by virtue of the diplomacy that we did with Russia and with the Security Council. We were able to get the Syrian government to voluntarily and verifiably give up its chemical weapons stockpile.”
Despite the audacity with which Bashar al-Assad crossed Obama’s “red line,” Rice heaped praise on President Obama’s decision not to act. She did admit that “the fundamental problem of Syria persists. The conflict still rages, and the United States, the international community, the U.N., Russia everybody else has not managed to find a negotiated solution.”
Susan Rice failed, to tell the truth about Benghazi, she had her hands in the unmasking of names from the rival party’s administration, and she claimed to have verified proof that chemical weapons were gone from Syria. Is it time for Rice to appear before a grand jury and give testimony under oath? What do you think?
