Scandalous Dossier Funding Origins Have Been Revealed

On Wednesday morning the Washington Post’s lead story is that the DNC and Hillary did pay for the scandalous ‘golden shower’ dossier.

According to the Post, the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC paid a total $9.2 million for “legal and compliance consulting” fees to a firm called Perkins Coie in Seattle. The firm was retained in April 2016, before that it is still unknown who in the Republican Party was funding Fusion GPS (how much you want to bet it was John McCain, just throwing it out there). The Washington Post reports:

The Clinton campaign and the DNC, through the law firm, continued to fund Fusion GPS’ research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

Fusion GPS gave Steele’s reports and other research documents to Elias, the people familiar with the matter said. It is unclear how or how much of that information was shared with the campaign and DNC, and who in those organizations was aware of the roles of Fusion GPS and Steele.
The dossier has become a lightning rod amid the investigations into the Trump campaign’s possible connections to Russia.
Trump tweeted as recently as Saturday that the Justice Department and FBI should “immediately release who paid for it.”

Steele previously worked in Russia for British intelligence. The dossier is a compilation of reports he prepared for Fusion. The dossier alleged the Russian government collected compromising information about Trump and the Kremlin was engaged in an active effort to assist his campaign for president.
U.S. intelligence agencies later released a public assessment, which asserted that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to aid Trump. The FBI has been investigating whether any Trump associates helped the Russians.
After the election, the FBI continued to pay Steele to gather intelligence, but the bureau broke off the arrangement after Steele’s name became public.

Now what is interesting about all this is that this dossier was supposedly the lynchpin to start the unmasking of the Trump campaign during the election. This could be trouble for Democrats in the Obama Administration. Why?
Think about it, the document that started the claim of Russia interference was paid for by an opposing party in a national election. Now, if Fusion GPS and Steele would come and testify and stand behind their findings I don’t think this would be as big of an issue. But, considering they refuse to cooperate the Congress throws up some red flags. In fairness, Steele did meet with Mueller’s team.

So what do you think? Does this help Trump or hurt Trump? Or do we just have to wait and see?
