Schumer demands CIA move in on Trump: ‘You must find a way to…’

Chuck Schumer just heated things up in Washington DC more than he has previously. On Wednesday night the Democratic Senate minority leader called for United States intelligence chiefs to “stage an intervention” with President Trump just hours after the president called them “naive” in a tweet.

Schumer sent a message to the Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and said that Trump’s consistent disregard for their research is putting the country at risk. In this missive, Schumer asked Coats, along with CIA Director Gina Haspel and FBI Director Christopher Wary, to set up a meeting with Trump to give him a reality check.

“You cannot allow the President’s ill-advised and unwarranted comments today to stand,” Schumer wrote.

“He is putting you and your colleagues in an untenable position and hurting the national interest in the process. You must find a way to make that clear to him.”

Schumer was referencing comments that the president made in a Wednesday morning tweet session. Trump made critical comments about the intelligence community and took specific issue with their assessments on Iran and North Korea.

“The Intelligence people seem to be extremely passive and naive when it comes to the dangers of Iran. They are wrong!” Trump tweeted. “Perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!”

The intelligence chiefs brought testimony before Congress on Tuesday where they declared that Iran is abiding by the 2015 nuclear deal and North Korea is unlikely to dismantle its weapons program.
