On Thursday Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that the Democrats will filibuster Judge Neil Gorsuch saying that he would tilt the court in a direction Democrats do not want to see.
“After careful deliberation, I have concluded that I cannot support Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court,
During the Obama administration Schumer voted to use the nuclear option on all other nominees. On Thursday Schumer also warned Republicans to ‘do as I say not as I do.’
“The answer isn’t to change the rules, it’s to change the nominee,” the New York Democrat said Thursday
Senator Schumer gave his statements while the hearing to confirm Gorsuch is still going on. Judge Gorsuch has received praise from both sides of the isle and has received the highest rating possible from the American Bar Association. The solicitor general for Obama even introduced Gorsuch and spoke high praise for the nominee.
The filibuster to block Gorsuch has nothing to do with Gorsuch qualifications it has everything to do with the Republicans blocking Obama’s nominee last year. Schumer is also putting pressure on Republicans to see just how far they will go on fulfilling the President Trump’s agenda. Also, with Gorsuch on the court, he could allow the President “Travel Ban” to move forward.
On the flip side, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that Republicans will use the “nuclear option” to approve Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. This will be a tremendous help to the Trump Administration when legal challenges come through the Supreme Court.
When it’s all said and done most believe that Judge Gorsuch will be confirmed. What do y? Leave a comment and tell us what you think should occur?
