Repealing and replacing Obamacare is not going to be a walk in the park. According to Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader, the way to repealing the legislation is completely unknown, and he has no clue how they will obtain the needed 50 votes from 52 senators.
McConnell told Reuters, “I don’t know how we get to 50 (votes) at the moment. But that’s the goal.” President Trump ran on a promise that a new healthcare program will be the top of his priority. The process for repealing and replacing ObamaCare has already begun, but many senators don’t expect the new bill to continue.
McConnell also told Reuters that he wasn’t planning on getting Democrats to help pass the Senate’s healthcare bill because the divide between parties is currently too large. As for the House, the Republican majority is bigger, but Republican’s didn’t respond well to the issue. During the first attempt, the Republicans couldn’t come together, and it fell through. The second time, the Republicans just barely passed the bill.
Tax reform is also on the top of the list says, McConnell. He believes it will be “pretty good” and said it is “not in my view quite as challenging as health care.”
