Former Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul recently received allegations that the Obama administration searched for intelligence on Paul via the National Security Agency. The allegations also stated that other members of Congress were a victim as well. Paul has since asked President Donald Trump to launch an investigation.
Paul was made aware of the “spying” almost a month ago, but to keep it under wraps, he sent a letter directly to the President. The following is an excerpt from the letter from Paul to Trump that was released to Circa:
“An anonymous source recently alleged to me that my name, as well as the names of other Members of Congress, were unmasked, queried or both, in intelligence reports of intercepts during the prior administration.”
“In light of the revelations that the names of persons associated with the Trump campaign were unmasked, I believe the allegations that myself and other elected members of the legislative branch may have also been unmasked or caught in intelligence gathering warrants investigation.”
The letter was copied to White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Senior Adviser Steve Bannon, both of whom dealt with Trump’s accusation that the Obama administration spied on him. The full letter can be found below:
Senator Rand Paul also took to Twitter with the question, “Did the Obama admin use warrantless “wiretapping” on other candidates besides @realDonaldTrump?”
