A new addition to the Washington D.C skyline appeared yesterday but, the White House may not be a fan of it. Protesters managed to release a giant yellow and orange banner from a massive crane behind the White House. The banner had one word: RESIST.
Police have confirmed that protesters climbed the 270-foot crane illegally early Wednesday morning. The seven protesters released the 70’x35’ banner after spending a few hours making the dangerous climb.
The group is a part of the several protests that began on inauguration day and are calling themselves Greenpeace protesters. Travis Nichols, a spokesman for the group, said their group is calling people to resist President Donald Trump and his agenda.
According to their website, “Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning organization that acts to change attitudes and behavior, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace…”
Greenpeace is also active around the world performing protests in places like Italy, Chicago, China, Asia, and more. The group ironically focuses very little on politics but normally focuses on the following issues:
- Don’t allow GMOs to go untested and unlabelled
- Stand in solidarity with Chernobyl survivors
- Stop Nuclear Restarts in Japan
- Detox our Nature
- Save the Arctic
- Support Ocean Sanctuaries
- Hold the Big Polluters accountable
Below is a video of the several protesters hanging from the crane after placing the banner. Would you ever climb a crane to simply protest?
