Anthony Weiner appeared in court today to enter a guilty plea and could face federal jail time for sexting with a 15-year-old girl. The New York Daily News reports:
“I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse,” Weiner said in his admission to the court. “I apologize to everyone I have hurt. I apologize to the teenage girl, whom I mistreated so badly.”
Once the plea was entered, prosecutors said they will ask for 21 to 27 months in prison for Weiner. He will be required to register as a sex offender under the deal.
Weiner wept as he read the four-paragraph statement where he detailed his years of compulsive sexual behavior, ending with last year’s explicit contact with a North Carolina high schooler.
Weiner, 52, once a congressman with far bigger ambitions, arrived quietly in Courtroom 12A at the Manhattan Federal Courthouse for the final scene in his bizarre sexual self-immolation.
Weiner’s gold wedding band remained on his left ring finger as he confessed to years of “destructive impulses (that) brought great devastation to family and friends.”
Court documents indicated the deal was finalized on May 10. The charge against him carried a potential 10-year prison term.
Upon arriving at his Manhattan home, Weiner — sweat pouring down his face and neck — walked past reporters.
“I’m sorry, guys,” said Weiner, whose sentencing was set for Sept. 8.
The plea stems from Weiner’s most recent sexting scandal. Last year, the high school girl came forward to say he had been exchanging explicit messages with her.
The girl said she decided to go public with their exchanges after seeing reports of Weiner sending pics to another woman with his toddler son in the background.
The teen has claimed he encouraged her to role-play rape fantasies with him and to say his name while touching herself.
Weiner reportedly went by the name “T-Dog” while texting the teen and used an encryption app that erases messages and pictures as soon as they’re seen.
In one shirtless photo sent to the girl, Weiner’s hand is gripping his genitals.
The investigation follows a series of public embarrassments that cost Weiner his political career and his marriage — and may have helped damage Clinton’s presidential campaign.
According to multiple reports “T-Dog” plea could land him in prison for up to 10 years. Hopefully, this disgusting human being will see some jail time. However, the way we treat politicians and celebrities I would doubt it which is a real shame.
