California just worked on a law to force Trump to reveal his taxes; now state lawmakers passed a resolution on Saturday that “requires” President Trump to formally apologize for his time in the White House. The resolution was attached to a string of bills and resolutions that were passed by a Democratic-controlled legislature. They want to identify their state as the “leader of the resistance.”
The California lawmakers will ask the president to “to publicly apologize to all Americans for his racist and bigoted behavior,” according to the resolution.
“The issue of resistance is beyond the symbolism, California Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de León said in a public statement. “There’s real lives at stake … and I think that a lot of other municipalities, as well as other states, are looking towards California … to be the leader of this resistance.”
Department of Justice spokesperson, Devin O’Malley, said, “The state of California is attempting to codify a commitment to returning criminal aliens back onto our streets, which undermines public safety, national security, and law enforcement.”
“Given the multiple high-profile incidents that have occurred in California in recent years, it is especially disappointing that state leaders would take steps to limit cooperation between local jurisdictions and immigration authorities attempting to keep Californians safe,” he concluded.
The California Democrats passed one more measure, and it could have a significant impact on the 2020 presidential election. They moved the date of the state’s presidential primary up five months to the beginning of March. This move has to be approved by Governor Jerry Brown, if it passes his desk, it could give California, even more, influence because of the large number of delegates the state has.
What do you think about these bold moves by California state lawmakers?
