Although today is a very special day for the now President Trump, someone tweeted a very powerful message from the White House twitter account during the main festivities.
The photo was taken on March 7th, 2015 in Selma, Alabama. Former President Obama and his family joined the Selma community on the Edmund Pettus Bridge for the 50th anniversary of the various marches in Selma and Montgomery.
The marches included violent resistance from authorities and ended with many hurt and wounded. The protesters walked peacefully for three days straight to reach Montgomery. The outcome of that March helped usher in a new life for many black voters in the south. Later that year, the Voting Rights Act was passed.
The picture is indeed powerful and captures the heart of many. The anniversary is one we should never forget. Along with the picture was a caption that read:
“Yes we can. Yes we did. Thank you for being a part of the past eight years.”
The Obamas are starting a new phase of life and we wish them the best luck moving forward!
Yes we can.
Yes we did.
Thank you for being a part of the past eight years. pic.twitter.com/mjmr4RkxpV— White House Archived (@ObamaWhiteHouse) January 20, 2017
