In his address to the joint session of Congress, President Trump focused a large part of his speech on immigration. During his speech, the President challenged the politicians who wanted an open border with a simple yet impossible question:
“To any in Congress who do not believe we should enforce our laws, I would ask you this question,” the president said. “What would you say to the American family that loses their jobs, their income, or a loved one, because America refused to uphold its laws and defend its borders?”
The question was met with applause and what seems like a strong approval from House Speaker Paul Ryan. After Trump’s statement was made, you can see Ryan shaking his head as if he agreed. To disagree with the question means to disagree with our laws. This makes the question one of the best questions to ask the left.
President Trump went on to reveal the positive side of closing our borders:
“By finally enforcing our immigration laws, we will raise wages, help the unemployed, save billions of dollars, and make our communities safer for everyone.”
The President is also hopeful to create new jobs through building his wall which will help close our borders. If done to his standards, Mexico will pay for it all. The reality is, there is no evidence saying anyone will pay for anything.
