President Trump was obviously frustrated and furious over the fact that his friend and personal attorney was raided by the FBI.
“I just heard that they broke into the office of one of my personal attorneys ― a good man. And it’s a disgraceful situation. It’s a total witch hunt. I’ve been saying it for a long time,” Trump told reporters
The raid is not part of the special counsel’s investigation but was referred to the FBI office by the special counsel. Meaning the investigation into Cohen has nothing to do with collusion or Russian meddling.
To get permission to search a practicing lawyer’s office top Justice Department Officials must sign off. What that means is the acting US attorney in Manhattan, Geoffrey S. Berman had to sign off.
Berman was appointed by Jeff Sessions and donated to the Trump Presidential campaign. Berman also met one on one with the President when he fired Preet Bharara from that position three months into his Presidency in 2017.
In other words, Berman was handpicked by Trump to be the lead attorney in Manhattan.
