Trump Sends A Message to Critics Via Twitter

President Trump is, not surprisingly, confident that he will find a great replacement for fired FBI Director James Comey. The president tweeted early Wednesday that the new FBI Director will do a better job than the former director, whom he had just fired the day before. “James Comey will be replaced by someone who will do a far better job, bringing back the spirit and prestige of the FBI,” the president tweeted.

Just 8 minutes later, the president followed the first tweet with another that predicted leaders on both sides of the political aisle would the “thanking” him for his decision. “Comey lost the confidence of almost everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike,” Trump tweeted. “When things calm down, they will be thanking me!”

Comey had been leading the highy charged investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign team and Russia. His dismissal from Trump came in a signed letter on Tuesday that said it was time for a “new beginning” at the FBI which Trump referred to as the nation’s “crown jewel of law enforcement.”

This decision shocked many in Washington, including Comey himself. He was on an FBI recruitment trip to the West Coast and when he heard the news from the press, he thought it was a prank. The decision brought outrage from Democrats who said immediately that the president was trying to shut down the FBI’s Russia investigation.

Trump had previously praised Director Comey. He said in the Fall that it “took a lot of guts” for Comey to send the October 28th letter to Congress regarding Hillary Clinton’s private email server “in light of the kind of opposition he had where they’re trying to protect her from criminal prosecution.”

Now all eyes will be on the person that Trump chooses to replace Comey. The new director will have to be confirmed by the Senate and have the resources to do “a far better job” and bring “back the spirit and prestige of the FBI.”

Do you believe that people will be “thanking” President Trump when things calm down?
