A political commentator for CNN recently got into it with Trump support and former Reagan aide, Jeffrey Lord after Lord called Trump the “Martin Luther King of healthcare.” His reasoning was that Trump was rallying support around healthcare reform much like King did for the Civil Rights Act.

In the interview, Lord revealed the following opinion of Trump:
“Think of President Trump as the Martin Luther King of healthcare. When I was a kid, President Kennedy did not want to introduce the civil rights bill because he said it wasn’t popular, he didn’t have the votes for it, et cetera. Dr. King kept putting people in the streets in harm’s way to put the pressure on so that the bill would be introduced. That’s what finally worked.”
Lord’s comments weren’t received well by CNN commentator Symone Sanders. Sanders immediately rebuked Lord for making such comparisons:
“Jeffrey, you do understand that Dr. King was marching for civil rights because people that looked like me were being beaten. Dogs were being sicced on them. Basic human rights were being withheld from these people merely because the color of their skin.”
She continued clearly upset:
“So let’s not equate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize winner, to the vagina-grabbing President Donald Trump.”
Lord has been long known for his support of President Trump. Even with Trump’s first major legislation defeat of the Affordable Care Act repeal, Lord still stands by Trump regarding healthcare. But despite the defeat, Trump is still fighting to get health care reform done before he tackles taxes.
What do you think about Trump being compared to Dr. King? Do you really believe there is a similarity?
