Normally, DirecTV does not give refunds…but the satellite service is changing their policy and refunding NFL Sunday Ticket subscriptions for their customers who are offended by the NFL teams national anthem protests. They apparently got calls from loads of customers who were upset over the players and coaches who knelt for the anthem during Sunday and Monday games.
One customer said, “I want to spend my money somewhere where it’s gonna be appreciated,” former subscriber Paul Alvarado of Keller, Texas, said. “I’m paying for a product that should not include that kind of anti-American sentiment.”
Keller called DirecTV to cancel his $300-per-year subscription and was surprised when they told him that he would get all of his money back as credit.
According to The Wall Street Journal, different DirecTV representatives provided contradicting answers when asked if refunds would be provided, but customers who contacted The Journal said they were getting at least some refunds. One DirecTV representative said that only customers with specific plans could get refunds, another said customers could get prorated refunds for the rest of the season, a third said full refunds were available while a fourth said no refunds were being given. AT&T, who owns DirecTV has declined to confirm the policy change.
What do you think about DirecTV’s willingness to give back money to customers offended by the NFL protests?
